Scared and Excited
My name is Alice and I am eleven years old. My family and I are going on a sailing trip (if you didn’t already know) for 3-5 years. Mostly I’m excited, but I’m also a little scared. I’m scared that something is going to happen to us. Like the boat will sink, or one of us will fall overboard and drown or die in some way. But I am excited to go and see new places and meet new people. I can learn about the history of the places we go.
When I tell people that I am going on a sailing trip for three to five years it is almost like they go into shock. They say things like “I wouldn’t be able to survive that long on a boat” and other things along those lines. People also tell me how lucky I am. I just nod and say “ok” because I am bad at responding to compliments which is something I need to work on for the sailing trip. Another thing I need to work on is my fright of deep water or the fact that I cannot see the bottom and what is under and around me. The reason I have to work on that is because I really, really, really, really want to learn how to scuba dive so I can spend more time under the water. I want to explore ship wrecks.
There are lots of places I want to go, like Madagascar, Alaska, the Caribean. I also want to go back to South Africa and Italy. There are many more places I want to go and will most likely go!
Do you have ideas of advice for me? Leave me a comment below! Thanks!
