Things that Toren wants to do and find
For a bit more insight into the life of a boat kid - check out Toren’s recent “To Do” list. Read more below for an annotated version. One of the best things about living on Sargo is having more time to explore, be curious and learn through experiences.
Find a giant cowrie - this is a special type of shell that Toren really likes. He saw someone with a very nice large one and now he wants to find one of his own. This is what a cowrie looks like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowrie
Spear 5 lobsters - note that he has already speared lobster #1! Go Toren! I made pizza with this first one and he actually ate it! He’s not the biggest fan of Lobster - but I guess when you spear it yourself it’s more delicious! He’s been pretty scared of sharks lately - as we’ve seen a bunch of them. So it’s been a little hard to get him into the water to snorkel. I suggested that he try making up a “mantra” to chant when he was feeling scared to help calm him down. Amazingly he tried it and it’s working! Toren’s mantra: “Stay calm and the shark won’t frown.” He was very excited to tell me how well it worked - “Mom if I say it really fast then it even slows down my breathing.” I love small moments like these.
Sword fight with dad - I don’t know what to tell you….the kids likes mid-evil weapons.
Do a plunging volley - again mid-evil weapons….this time it’s archery. Basically he wants to shoot an arrow nearly straight up into the air…bonus points if it’s a lit fire arrow.
Drive my boat - he is referring to his remote control boat
Make the third lego set
Go knee boarding
Find a sundial - another shell
Dive and get a conch - Conch are a very large snail that live on the grassy bottom. Toren’s preferred means of eating conch are conch fritters. More info about conch here: https://www.nassauparadiseisland.com/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-conch I prefer conch salad and conch chowder.
Make a jungle hut - When Bjorn was a kid he would build jungle huts on his family’s property on Man-o-War Cay. This tradition has carried on with Alice and Toren. They haven’t built one yet this year so it’s on the list!
Dig a hole as tall as me - one of Toren’s favorite beach activities - hole digging. It keeps him busy.
Finish our submarine -Toren and Bjorn are building a submarine from a large soda bottle
